Annika Frye *1985, is a german designer based in Offenbach (near Frankfurt). She is currently working on her PhD project at the school of Design Offenbach (HfG Offenbach). The thesis is a research about the intuitive parts of the design process: improvisation. It has a focus on design theory, but it also has a practical part, where Annika is working on improvisation in serial production processes. Annika works as research assistant of Prof. Martin Gessmann at the HfG. Besides this, she works on practical design projects (furniture and accessories) – the people she works with are different from project to project.

Annika Frye studied Product Design at the school of Arts and Design in Kassel. During her studies, she was co-founder of a student’s design studio – “Teilchenbeschleuniger” – which until now works for local clients in Kassel. Furthermore, she was teaching and assisting Prof. Oliver Vogt with the project “Korbkreislauf”, a project of students of the first year. Her graduation thesis was both a theoretical analysis of the field of improvisation in design processes and a practical experience. The graduation thesis was supervised by Prof. Oliver Vogt, Prof. Dr. Uta Brandes and Sandra Groll.

Annika also worked with dutch designers Richard Hutten and Kiki van Eijk in 2009 and with german designer Tassilo von Grolman in 2007. She exhibited her work in Milan, at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, at the Designmai in Berlin, in Istanbul, Cologne and in Frankfurt.
